I spent a major part of my life feeling that I was no good. This was the image I had of myself until I encountered Jesus. He removed the veil of darkness that was covering me from seeing myself as good.

Today a lot of believers still struggle with the feeling of not being good enough and continue to strive to feel good through achievement and performance.

There are two things that are happening within you when you don’t naturally feel good about yourself.

Firstly, you probably have a defective image about yourself and secondly, you don’t have the inherent knowledge of your good. What this does is that it makes perfection become the invincible standard that you must meet to feel good about yourself.

Well the message I have for you today is that you are good and you actually don’t have to do anything to earn this good. How do I know this? Because the Bible says so.

The book of Genesis tells us that after God had created man, He looked at him and said that it was good. This sound very simply, yet it is a truth that once ingrained within your spirit can transform how you see yourself and how you live.

Now that this knowing of your good has been introduced into your spirit, there is still one further step to take to ensure that what you know becomes what you believe and what you believe becomes how you live.

Every human behaviour comes from holding a particular belief about that area of life. So, if you are going to live with the inner knowing that you are good and you going to have to first believe that you are good and that you don’t have to perform to feel good about yourself.

Essentially, you have to change your mindset from believing you are not good enough to believing you are good. The book Romans 12:2 teaches us to be transformed by the renewing of our minds.

This process of renewing your mind takes place when you allow the transformative power of the word of God to change what you believe about yourself by engaging in prayer and meditating on the word of God.

Let us now look at two aspects of the word of God that will help you to begin to believe that you are good. Firstly, knowing who you are by creation and secondly knowing who you are in salvation.

The Bible reveals fundamental truths that should frame every believer’s understanding of who they are by creation, that is understanding who you are as a human being.

In Genesis 2:7 we see that God formed Adam’s body from the dust of the ground and breathed into him, thereby giving him life.

Therefore, it is important to understand that God is the direct source of our existence on earth, and we derive our existence from Him and everything that God created is good, including you. That’s why we see that when God created man, He looked at Him and said it was good.

The Bible also tells us in Genesis 2:7 that man was made in the image of God. Therefore, being made in the image of God means that our form and likeness come from God. So, we are not just a random occurrence on earth but a well-thought-out expression of the love of God.

The second aspect to examine is that of who we are in salvation. The Bible tells us in Ephesians 2:8-9 that for by grace you have been saved through faith, and not of yourselves, it is the gift of God, and not of works, lest anyone should boast.

What this means is that the believers' right standing before God does not happen because we have been able to accumulate many good works. Instead, we receive grace as a gift once we repent of our sins, and God now inputs the righteousness of Jesus on us thereby making us right before God.

What I want you to take away from this is that as a believer, your good is an inherent part of who you are in Christ Jesus. Your life is planted in Christ Jesus, and you my friend, are created in the image and likeness of God.

Confident in these truths as revealed in the Bible, you can rest in the knowing of your good and worth.
